Today is the day of my grandfather's funeral.
Tensions are high and I am nervous that at any moment I will well up with tears. This happens to be the first death in my family that I am really aware of. As a very small kid, I only attended one or two funerals. Growing up seeing them in movies, I always assumed you must wear all black. That's how funerals were depicted so that's what I thought.
However, that is not actually a custom for a Jewish funeral, which my grandfather is having. It feels gauche to discuss funeral fashion but I feel odd attending in a burnt orange, patterned dress. My mom has assured me it is appropriate but I still don't feel right. I pictured attending a funeral in black tights, a black dress, and sharp black blazer, and for it to be pouring rain outside. I guess Hollywood funerals set a precedent for me.
All I can say is, life certainly is not Hollywood and there is no team of costume designers to help you get ready for what life throws at you.

Let's get one thing straight...
I am a total wannabe fashion blogger.
I am not posing as a fashion guru or someone who always knows just which Minkoff bag to pair with that McQueen skirt. However, I have a pretty good idea of what I would do if I had an unlimited bank account and closet space. If you want to see how I try my hand at looking semi-good with clothes that you can also buy (not some $300 backless jumpsuit from a NYC boutique), you've come to the right place. Over the next few weeks, I am going to clean out my MESS of a closet and decide what items are worth it to keep and what things are not.
Last year, I had to wear a back brace 24/7 to treat my scoliosis but this year I don't. The back brace was painful and awkward and my closet suffered majorly, since I couldn't wear very tight things, anything that didn't have a high t-shirt neck, or I would wear scarves with everything. It was a bad experience for someone who adores clothes. This year, I am going to replenish some of my wardrobe once I purge it. Stay tuned for posts about shopping hauls for both clothes and (hopefully) makeup and stay connected by following me on Tumblr and Instagram!
Stay gorgeous! xo
